Associate in Research, FCR-STEM
Charity Buntin (formally Bauduin) is an Associate in Research at the Learning Systems Institute (LSI) at Florida State University. She began working in research at LSI in 2011 and has served in a variety of roles on various research projects, including serving as a researcher in the Mathematics Formative Assessment System (MFAS). While working on MFAS, Mrs. Buntin became an expert in K-5 Common Core and Florida Mathematics Standards, traveled across Florida presenting to and training teachers on the formative assessment process. Prior to her work with the Schoen Research Group, Ms. Buntin was an elementary classroom teacher in Okaloosa County, Florida where she taught grades 3-5.
Mrs. Buntin is interested in learning how students approach solving various mathematics problems, and in how students develop their understanding of the meaning of the equal sign and the varied approaches that teachers can take to help students make sense of the equal sign. She is also interested in improving mathematics teacher education. Mrs. Buntin serves as a Project Manager for the Foundations for Success: Developing Effective Mathematics Educators through Cognitively Guided Instruction research study.
She is a graduate of the University of West Florida in Elementary Education. Currently, she is a doctoral student in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction program with a major in Mathematics Education at Florida State University.
